Modified PTFE vs. Virgin PTFE
| Comparison | Modified PTFE | Virgin PTFE |
|---|---|---|
| Chemical Resistance | Broad, grade-dependent | Broad |
| Deformation Under Load | Generally reduced | Higher |
| Permeability | Can be lower | Standard PTFE level |
| Electrical Properties | Grade-dependent | Preferred for general insulation |
| Primary Use | Demanding seals and linings | General chemical and electrical applications |
Selection Information
Provide the operating pressure, temperature, chemical media, sealing load and required service life. “Modified PTFE” is not one universal formulation, so the exact grade must be identified during quotation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is modified PTFE the same as filled PTFE?
No. Modified PTFE changes the PTFE polymer structure or formulation. Filled PTFE contains reinforcing materials such as glass, carbon, graphite or bronze.
Can modified PTFE sheet be used for gaskets?
Yes. It is commonly considered where reduced creep, lower permeability or improved sealing stability is required.
Can custom gaskets be produced?
Yes. Sheets can be cut or machined into gaskets according to flange dimensions and drawings.
