Material overview

Why PFA Is Used in Critical Fluid Handling

PFA is selected where process media must remain isolated from corrosion-prone materials and where smooth, melt-processed surfaces are valuable. Compared with PTFE, PFA can be extruded and molded using thermoplastic processing methods. Compared with FEP, it is generally chosen for more demanding temperature and creep requirements.

Grade, purity, permeability, wall thickness and component geometry still matter. Final selection should be based on the actual chemical, temperature, pressure, cleanliness and mechanical conditions—not the polymer name alone.

Performance profile

Core PFA Material Properties

Values vary by resin grade and test method. Confirm the selected manufacturer's datasheet before final design approval.

01

Chemical Resistance

Compatible with many strong acids, alkalis, oxidizers and organic solvents across a broad operating range.

02

High Purity

Selected grades support semiconductor chemical delivery, laboratory handling and other low-contamination systems.

03

Temperature Capability

Typical grades are used continuously at temperatures up to approximately 260°C, subject to load and environment.

04

Low Surface Energy

A smooth, non-stick surface helps reduce material adhesion and supports cleaning in process equipment.

05

Electrical Insulation

Stable dielectric behavior makes PFA useful for wire, cable, sensor and high-temperature insulation applications.

06

Melt Processability

Extrusion, injection molding, transfer molding and heat fusion enable tubing, film and shaped components.

Design note

Pressure rating and bend performance for PFA tubing depend on outside diameter, wall thickness, temperature, resin grade and assembly method.

Buyer questions

PFA Material FAQ

Answers for early product and material selection.

What is PFA material?

PFA is a melt-processable fluoropolymer that combines broad chemical resistance, low surface energy and high-temperature capability. Extrusion and molding make it suitable for smooth tubing, film and complex parts.

How is PFA different from PTFE?

Both materials provide broad chemical resistance. PFA is melt processable and is commonly selected for extruded tubing, molded parts and welded or heat-fused assemblies. PTFE is commonly compression molded, skived or machined and is available in more filled grades.

When should PFA be selected instead of FEP?

PFA is generally considered when the application requires higher continuous temperature capability, improved creep resistance or demanding high-purity fluid service. FEP remains useful when clarity, flexibility and a lower processing temperature are the main priorities.

Can JAIFUXIN supply high-purity PFA tubing?

Yes. State the chemical media, purity requirement, inside and outside diameter, wall thickness, working temperature, pressure and required packaging when requesting a quotation.

Can PFA parts be manufactured from a drawing?

Yes. PFA rods and other stock can be machined, and suitable parts may also be produced by melt processing. Send a drawing with tolerances, quantity, grade and service conditions for a manufacturing review.

What information is needed for a PFA quote?

Provide the product form, dimensions, PFA grade or purity requirement, quantity, operating temperature, pressure, chemical media and any inspection, cleaning or packaging requirements.
